Photography Tip - Isolating Your Subject

Photography Tip - Isolating Your Subject

We live in a hectic, fast paced world. It seems like everyone is always pressed for time. A Mary Chapin carpenter song wraps it up perfectly - " ... everybody's got to go, got to be, got to get somewhere." I know this feeling all too well and have consciously made changes in my life to slow down. Slowing down allows us to connect with and see our subjects more clearly.

Photography Tip - Shooting in Bright Sun

Photography Tip - Shooting in Bright Sun

Most photographers, including myself, don't normally shoot under bright sun. The light is harsh and usually not very flattering for your subjects. Ideally, you want to use diffused light from a soft cloudy day or that magical early morning/early evening light. But sometimes you don't have a choice and you have to shoot in bright sun. You may be shooting an event that is outdoors.

"Time spent with cats is never wasted." - Sigmund Freud.

Have a soft spot for gray cats? The best place to meet and spend time with cats is at your local shelter or rescue where the most beautiful shades of gray cats are waiting to be adopted. Shy, mellow and irresistible Miles is dreaming of a home and family to call his own. He is available for adoption with AZ RESCUE in Phoenix, AZ.

Photography Tip - Using Repetition Creatively

Photography Tip - Using Repetition Creatively

Seeking out and photographing repeating patterns is a great way to exercise your eye so to speak.  It forces you to slow down and really observe your surroundings. It’s amazing what you will find and see when you slow down. Botanical gardens are treasure troves of repeating patterns and one of my favorite places to take photographs with my 70-200mm lens.
